Amalfi ist eine Kleinstadt mit 5341 Einwohnern (Stand 31. Dezember 2009) in Italien, in der Provinz Salerno, in der Region Kampanien. Sie gehört zur Bergkommune Comunità Montana Penisola Amalfitana.

Amalfi liegt am Golf von Salerno, am Tyrrhenischen Meer, 26 km westlich von Salerno und 73 km südöstlich von Neapel. Die Stadt liegt an einer steilen Felsenküste, die ihren Namen von diesem Ort ableitet: Amalfiküste, die von der UNESCO zum Weltkulturerbe erklärt wurde. Sie erstreckt sich von der Küste in ein enges Tal der Monti Lattari hinein, die die Halbinsel von Sorrent einnehmen. Die eigentliche Stadt kann nur eine Fläche von rund 3 km² zur Bebauung nutzen. Zur Gemeinde Amalfi gehören auch Lone, Pastena, Vettica, Pogerola und Tovere.

Die Nachbargemeinden sind Atrani, Ravello und Positano.

Se encuentra en la boca de una profunda garganta al pie del Monte Cerreto, de 1.315 m de altura, rodeada por acantilados. En la actualidad (2009) tiene 5.341 habitantes.

Amalfi es el principal pueblo de la costa en la que se localiza, llamada Costa Amalfitana (italiano: Costiera Amalfitana), y hoy en día es un destino turístico importante junto con otros pueblos de la misma costa, como Positano, Ravello y otros. Esta zona es famosa por su producción de limoncello.

Amalfi es parte de la lista de lugares Patrimonio de la Humanidad de la Unesco.

Amalfi is a town and comune in the province of Salerno, in the region of Campania, Italy, on the Gulf of Salerno, c. 35 km southeast of Naples. It lies at the mouth of a deep ravine, at the foot of Monte Cerreto (1,315 meters, 4,314 feet), surrounded by dramatic cliffs and coastal scenery. The town of Amalfi was the capital of the Maritime Republic of Amalfi, an important trading power in the Mediterranean between 839 and around 1200.

In the 1920s and 1930s, Amalfi was a popular holiday destination for the British upper class and aristocracy.

Amalfi is the main town of the coast on which it is located, named Costiera Amalfitana, and is today an important tourist destination together with other towns on the same coast, such as Positano, Ravello and others. Amalfi is included in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
